JOTW: Night Shift

On still.grimey's recent, epic road trip to Rock the Bells in San Fran (concert review and photos pending), Geezy exposed several of our other VI fam and I to the wonder that is the Commodores. I have always loved "Easy," but I am only now discovering their plethora of other steaming hot cuts. My personal favorite is "Night Shift," this weeks official jam. The Commodores pay tribute to their deceased amigos, and the archtypal eighties accompaniment and attire provide a welcome respite from modern music's auto-tune heavy bullshit. Enjoy.

Pure Genius.

Rick Ross on collaborating with T.I. on "Maybach Music 3", a new track of Rawse's The Teflon Don:
Just us being bosses and us being leaders and us being examples, we bossed up. We both did.
If we could all just be a little more like the Bawse and Cliff, and just be bosses, so we could all boss up, the world would be a better place.

Bossing by Example: T.I. and Rick Ross

[Is it weird how much I love how much Rick Ross loves using the term boss (enunciated: BAWSE!)? Well, I'll toss out a quick "no homo", just to make sure Officer Ricky doesn't get the wrong idea.]

...and now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

Shoe Porn.

I've been told by a couple of my friends that recently took a tarot card reading class at the University of Oregon that my excessive materialism is because "my sign" is Leo (I always thought it was just because stunting is a habit). Well regardless of why, your boy just really likes shoes. And since you gotta know where you been to know where your going, or some cornybull shit like that, let me (re)introduce you to an OG shoe model: the PRO-Ked.
The PRO-Ked has been in the sneaker game since before most of our parents were born, 1949 to be exact (even heavier in the game is the company that owns the rights for them: The United States Rubber Company's Keds, since 1916).
With a dope spin on their fall look book, PRO-Keds has put together a video to get us all salivating for this autumn's newest spin on an OG's classic. Down below is the PRO-Keds Fall 2010 Look Book:

still.grimey Presents: New Music Mondays

In the spirit of trying to be better bloggers (don't hold your breath), still.grimey would like to holler at its readers with some new free music as of late. As always, Young Jeezy is highly touted, and you probably wont like most of it, but maybe you will. So without further ado, welcome to the first installment of still.grimey's New Music Mondays:

Young Jeezy's newest mixtape released 08.12.2010: 1,000 Grams

recommended tracks:
"choppa in da pant" & "popular demand"
*note: you should still listen to every track.

hit the jump for more slaps:

Off Freddie Gibbs' newest mixtape effort Str8 Killa No Filla Mixtape (release date: 07.29.10):
"Slangin' Rocks"- Freddie Gibbs

My favorite Gucci Mane song off his recent Mr. Zone 6 Mixtape (release date: 08.10.2010):
"Making Love to the Money" - Gucci Mane

Some new Dr. Dre presumably off Detox (release date: never)
"Turn Me On" - Dr. Dre

Some new Cudi featuring Yeezy on some G.O.O.D. lovin' off Kid Cudi's upcoming release: Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager (expected release date: 10.26.10):
"Wylin' Cuz I'm Young" - Kid Cudi featuring Kanye West

Two heat rocks of Fat Joe's The Darkside Vol. 1 (released 07.27.10), one of which gets blessed by Killah Cam and The Brothers Thorton:
"Kilo' - Fat Joe featuring The Clipse & Cam'ron & "I am Crack" - Fat Joe

Well kids, lookin' at my desktop it's about that time. Hopefully you'll enjoy this tracks as much as I have. I know my fellow Wu heads might tell me to portect my neck after I say this, but i think i might like Joey Crack's version of "Kilo" better than Ghostfaces (click here to download "Kilo" - Ghostface Killah). Anyway, hopefull you enjoyed this first edition of New Music Monday. I'm not going to guaranty anything for next Monday, however, because still.grimey mainstain JAM, (former?) contributor Cameron, and two of our other boys from back home are making the journey south to the Rock the Bells festival in San Francisco, CA. But please believe we will be working on a review and getting some pictures up of the festivities (assuming they will let me rock my camera in the show.) I'm planning on hollering at y'all before our departure this Friday though, but I gotta get this posted to meet the Monday deadline.

One.

JOTW: The Re-up

Yeah we've been absent. The grind doesn't leave a whole lot of room for blogging, especially since I do manual labor and have a persistent weekend hangover. However, Geezy has inspired a new wave of posts which will hopefully continue to be as abundant as our earlier days in the blogging game.
To the topic at hand. Over the period of time since I last posted a JamoftheWeek, I have been listening to Cam'ron's Purple Haze frequently. Some might say that it is Killa's best album, and I would tend to agree. One of the best, if not the best, cuts on the album is Down & Out, featuring Kanye. It is chock full of Cam's classic bombastic obscenity, and obscure references. What's not to love?

"Observe, cock and spray. Hit you from a block away. Drinkin' sake on the Suzuki we in Osaka Bay."

As an added bonus, you may enjoy this ridiculous interview Cam'ron gave after suburban whites discovered the stop snitching code and were fascinated by urban dwellers' firm dedication to its ideals. Cam takes the ideology to new heights, and Anderson Cooper is visibly disgusted. Hilarious.

"If I knew the serial killer was living next door to me. Nah, I wouldn't call anybody and tell on 'em. But, I'd probably move."

Right Back Like I Left Something

Your boy is lazy. It’s been longer than a fiscal quarter since we last spoke, which leads me to believe that if still.grimey isn’t your least favorite blog on the internets, it’s strictly because you forgot about our bitch asses. In the last three months plus a lot of shit has changed, but some things remain the same. Shall we take a quick recap on the last few months? Well fuck whatchu think, I’m going in.
We’ve seen a basketball great make a transformation from messiah to pariah over the course of a one hour television special, Big Boi release a new album (which is straight heat rocks, by the way), and all a colossal fuckery with incomprehensible repercussions in the Gulf Coast (can those poor people in the NO just get a break?).
Personally, I’ve seen the majority of my friends graduate, including still.grimey’s own (former?) JAM and Killah Cam, from University of Washington and NYU, respectively. I also moved houses, which is always a bitch, and I graduated from 21 to 22. Okay, so turning a year older doesn’t constitute the term “graduated”, but I’m just trying to keep up with my peer group, cut your boy some slack. Oh, and I shot a gun for the first time, which was rad. As my good friend Trevor put it: “when you shoot a gun, it’s like having two dicks.” And since we shot 5 different guns, I now have six dicks. Ladies, get in line (or perhaps a circle?).

Your boy sprouting one of many new dicks with a 12 gauge.
