Summer Bunnies 2k16: Still.Grimey’s Summer Cookout Compilation

LaGreezy and I have taken it upon ourselves to build a tome of a summer playlist that hits hard and scorches you more tender than the Caribbean sun. This little five hour number that we've carefully assembled (seriously we put probably 40 man hours into this) for your listening pleasure isn’t really built for a turn-up. It's more of a steady, rolling selection of heat rocks that we hope will keep you and your homies on a consistent, positive vibe.

The playlist is broken down into sections, with a little description next to each. As you’ve probably already inferred, this informal, somewhat fatuous post is the polar opposite of the Prince post immediately preceding it. The pendulum swings wide in these serious times.

I think the most important suggestion I can provide is to suggest that you enjoy this in the order it’s presented. You can skip tracks, but I wouldn’t throw it on random. Structure is important here. You should also feel free to move forward without reading the rough guide after the jump and just process this on your own.

Always cry for love, never cry for pain

Prince Rogers Nelson 1958-2016
The following is a sentimental overlay of what Prince means to me, and my thoughts on what he means for music.  Hit the jump for more.

Pleasantly Mundane Thuggery: Musings on Lil Yachty (and others!)

LaGreezy spent four seasons at the four seasons twice
Let's get this out of the way quickly for those of you who ain't know: your mans is a tax accountant by trade. Well, in all reality, I'm a bit of an asshole by trade, but my LinkedIn page says I'm a senior tax associate, and as we all know everything you read on the internet is true. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make here is that, as you probably ascertained, some aspects of my day-to-day professional life contain a fair dosage of mundanity.

Based on previous employment positions I've had, as well as all the times I've stopped listening to my friends complain about something at their job, I'd be willing to bet this is a pretty common plight in the human experience. Everybody tends to have a coping strategy for dealing with the mundane. I typically listen to podcasts or books on tape to slog through the shit end of my workload. Some people smoke weed to deal with it (note: if you do this you are fucking insane- even the idea of doing taxes while stoned gives me so much anxiety that I want to peel my skin off with a cheese grater and hurl my body out of a moving car).

I digress. As of late, there's been a section of my soundcloud page that I keep coming back to. Not to necessarily combat the banality of certain tasks, but to rather compliment it - perhaps even bask in it. So I just said fuck it, I should share this with the homies, and maybe use it as an excuse to make internet again.

[Please hit di jump for the playlist and continued musings:]

This Is a God Dream: The Return of Kanye West and Still Grimey

LaGreezy just shot an amateur video he think he should go pro.
Well, it's here. Kanye West has dropped a new album, that after much debate, ended up being titled The Life of Pablo. But you already knew that, which is why you're here. Apparently in doing so, he got me in the mood to put fingers to keyboards to do something other than get off these fire tweets. But before I begin my ramblings, I'd like to qualify this very rare outburst of written word that extends beyond the confines of 140 characters or less: As a practice for any "event" piece of artwork, I typically try to give myself some time to sit with it prior to jumping into the hot take onslaught of our mass-musical consumption. I've also had a decent amount of people hit me up for my opinion on this record in the last, like, 48 hours, or whatever, so I thought this would be an appropriate discursive avenue to pursue. What you about to witness is my thoughts. Just my thoughts, man. Right or wrong, just what I was feeling at the time.

Anyway, please find your way to the jump(!!! blogspot back!!) for my current reading of Kanye West's very dope, if oft-confused, The Life of Pablo:
